It was a hot, humid September day without the usual breeze. As I walked around the vegetable patch the scent of chocolate mint filled the air.
Every year I plant mint, amid dreams of mint tea. That morning was the reminder and mid morning chocolate mint tea became a requirement.
A chocolate mint plant is a wonder unto itself. We could smell the scent as the tea steeped and later it was a delicate green colour in one of my mother's China cups. The hint of chocolate with the mint was lovely despite the hot day.
I've had an interest in mint tea since we visited Morocco two years ago. Moroccans love their mint tea, with lots of sugar. My husband and I were on a tour which included a visit to the Berber people of Morocco. There we met Lala, a woman who helped support her family when she entertained tourists in her home with a tea party.
Any time I have mint tea, I think about Lala and her people. Wonderful memories!
