5 Easy Ways to Spruce Up Your Garden

If you live in a city and are constantly surrounded by concrete, then you know how refreshing patches of nature can be — whether you’re spending five minutes at a park or walking around a neighborhood filled with trees. Time explains that there are mental and physical benefits to outdoor spaces, such as lowering stress and blood pressure. Green spaces can even lower the risk of developing psychological disorders.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a garden in your home, then you should definitely maximize it and turn it into a space where you can relax, spend time with loved ones, and even work when you’re tired of your home office. That being said, here are some easy ways you can improve your garden:

Set up a lounge area

A lounge area can be used for work and relaxation, so you want it to be both comfortable and conducive to productivity. You can clear an area in your garden and build your own pergola or deck. According to Ideal Home, good outdoor seating is important in order to really enjoy your time outdoors. You can incorporate your seating just about anywhere, even if it’s just a simple bench between flowerbeds. If you’re feeling creative, many hardware shops sell materials you can use to make your own pallet sofa.

Install garden lighting

Having garden lighting can instantly create a magical atmosphere once the day darkens. Solar lights, in particular, are great for scattering around your garden, and far from the electric sockets of your home. Since they’re wireless, you don’t have to worry about tripping over any wires. You can even try solar fairy lights that you can wrap around trees and shrubs. Multicolored solar flower lights will also look beautiful among your other plants. Plus, they’re easy to install by yourself since you can just poke them into the ground wherever you want.

Put up a garden shower

A garden shower may seem like an unnecessary addition, but if you’ve got the room, Home Design Lover explains that it can give your area a beach-like feel and provide a refreshing way to cool down, especially in the summer. Since installing a garden shower is a major project, you’ll need to make sure to select the right materials to prevent damage to your drainage system due to environmental factors. One example of this is upgrading your pipes for outdoor use, as HomeServe warns that rusty iron pipes can cause low water pressure and even clog your entire water system with gravel, sand, or dirt. Consider seeking the help of a water provider or plumber if you decide to add a garden shower.

Don’t be afraid to use artificial grass

Maintaining a lawn takes a lot of work, given that you constantly have to water and trim it. For this reason, you can consider using artificial grass instead. You may think that it looks too synthetic and fake, but many companies nowadays have designs that are much more realistic. You can also use it to cover bald patches and create the illusion of a year-round lush lawn. Of course, you’ll still have to work on maintaining it. Fluff out the blades of grass by using a thick-bristled broom or lawn rake, so they don’t look too flattened out. Do some periodic deep cleaning as well, especially if it starts to look too matted.

Use a mirror to make the garden seem bigger

Mirrors can make a room look bigger, and this applies to your garden as well. Moreover, they act as a focal point — instead of being focused on a dark spot or a corner with cobwebs. Aside from hanging them on walls, you can stick them into the ground near a darker spot in your garden to give the space some light during the day.

Sprucing up your garden doesn’t call for a full remodeling job. It takes just a bit of creativity on your part to create a space you would love to spend time in. For more ideas on how to enhance your outdoor spaces, our previous article ‘Easy Ways to Enhance Your Outdoor Spaces’ has you covered.
